Assignment #1 - SWOT Analysis
After looking at the reading materials and hearing the in-class presentation, develop a SWOT analysis for the following situations.
Assignment #2 - Research Your Career Path
This assignment will help you determine what path after high school is best for you.
You will have to conduct an informational interview with a former high school student-athlete who took a path of your interest – you will have the option to select the professional of your choice. They could have taken one of the paths below or one not on this list.
For this assignment, you must create a digital story that contains the following elements.
*All three of the elements must be done through video recording – you may use Vimeo, YouTube, Vine, or another video software to upload your video.
1. State the path you currently plan on taking and why you think it’s best for you
2. Interview a former high school student athlete and see where they’re at now and how they got there
3. After conducting the informational interviewer, record your feedback and explain whether it's changed your current career plan or not and why.
Guiding questions for the informational interview (will vary depending upon the interviewee’s career path):
Why did you decide to go straight to the pros?
Why didn’t you go to college?
How did college enhance your career as an athlete and as a professional outside of sports?
Why did you decide not to go pro after playing sports in high school and college?
If you could change anything about your college career, would you, and why or why not?
After looking at the reading materials and hearing the in-class presentation, develop a SWOT analysis for the following situations.
- Going pro straight from high school
- Going to college first
- Consider the financial outlook of both
situations
- If you go to college, think about the field of
study you may go into
- Also, consider the professional network of
connections you may develop with peers, teachers, and professionals at a college or university
- Think about how these situations would impact the length of your career and the
opportunity to sign multiple contracts
- Assess your current situation (socially,
economically, professionally, etc.) and consider which path would be best for you
